Keep Monroe County Beautiful, Inc. provides litter prevention education to our county’s citizens. The Waste Education Station (WES) has been most effective in teaching all aspects of litter prevention, recycling, beautification, soil conservation and water quality preservation to students from city and county schools. The focus for WES is second, fourth and sixth grades, but all grades are included. WES programs are also taken to the schools to reach as many students as possible. This program is lauded as an excellent resource by educators to enhance the regular school instruction.
Special programs such as an environmental magician, environmental puppet shows, etc. are also supported by KMCB as a means to further accentuate this needed education. Many parents have stated that they now use the convenience (recycling) centers because their child attended WES. Since its inception in 1995, WES has educated over 13,000 students. During the last two years we have averaged reaching 2,000 students each year.
Our message of litter prevention, recycling and beautification is also taken to business, industry and community organizations. Speaking engagements are planned to provide these organizations with the most comprehensive information possible regarding the great need for litter prevention. Recycling is a major emphasis.
One other highly successful program of KMCB is our “Litter Free Event.” Organizations, cities, clubs, churches, etc., are offered materials to help keep their event litter free. We provide trash cans, trash bags and literature for attendees. We have successfully reached over 13,000 people during the last three years through this aspect of our program.
Other programs sponsored each year are litter cleanups (roadside, parks, etc.), beautification projects, volunteer awareness and others as the need arises.
You may help KMCB spread this message of “Keep America Beautiful” by joining “Keep Monroe County Beautiful” and volunteering to help with these programs. Just call us and volunteer to:
